Things teachers do to be happy :)

Hello and Hi,

Hello teachers, How's your break? Hope you guys had a great time. And time flies, whew. Next week is the meetings! Are you ready? I think I am 50% ready. Excited but at the same time, I will miss the break.

So here's some tips for the 2016 kickstart. What are the tips for? It is to make sure that you, teachers, are happy for at least a day in 2016. So how to make yourself happy for 2016? here's what you can do.

1. Greet your students in the hallway or in class (before they do)

Instead of hoping that they will greet you, I think we should initiate this too. Students learn by example. Respect is earned here. No doubt I shall say about that. Add it up with hugs and handshakes (if you can). That will create a bond with them knowing you are serious about teaching. Trust me, they will love you more!

2. Appreciate the humor (even if it's a lame one)
It's not easy to make people laugh, so appreciate your students' humor as long as it doesn't hurt anyone. But naturally, kids are funny and hilarious. Enjoy that humor moment and even be critical about it. Continuing the humor could make them feel appreciated. You'll enjoy your class even more.

3. Share something positive with the parents
A lot of teachers fret during meet the parents day. They hope that the day never existed. It shouldn't be that way. Parents are hopeful souls and they want to know whether their children are making progress or not. Send emails 2-3 times a week telling about their kids positive progress and you'll be admired for taking a step further.

4. Bond with a colleague
your colleagues are the people nearest to you and they know the same problem everybody is facing in school. Hang out with them. Talk about students that needed improvement with them and ask how they do it. They are your pillar of strength. They will back you up. It's really an advantage to have colleague who would help

5. (Try to) Leave work at work
Yes you should. It would make you happier. Your family needs you. I never bring my school work home and I am happy. I don't think about it at all but when I arrive at school, I know I must finish it. Stress is out!

Win your students' attention (or hearts) with Ted Talks!

Good Day everyone! How is your day? Hopefully it is interesting and satisfying.

We are in December 2015! Hello December~~

Today I will talk about using an interesting source to teach your kids. Be it, English, Science, History and whatever, you can use this source because to me, it is interesting and at the same inspiring. The tool that I am going to talk about is the TED Talks.

Have you ever heard of TED Talks before? You should! Especially as educators, TED talks makes me wonder and ponder upon things I never ever known existed. I found a lot of possibilities in the world through TED Talks. Before this, when I was down and sad I'd look up for my favorite song in Youtube and play it again and again. Now, I have TED Talks, instead of songs, I listen to talks.

What is TED talk?



TED is a nonprofit devoted to spreading ideas, usually in the form of short, powerful talks (18 minutes or less). TED began in 1984 as a conference where Technology, Entertainment and Design converged, and today covers almost all topics — from science to business to global issues — in more than 100 languages. Meanwhile, independently run TEDx events help share ideas in communities around the world. TED is owned by a nonprofit, nonpartisan foundation. Our agenda is to make great ideas accessible and spark conversation.(http://www.ted.com/about/our-organization)

What you should do now is go to www.ted.com , watch 1-2 videos and I tell you what, you will want to watch more. Go for the 11 most classic ted talks or the 20 most popular ones. I've watched them all.

So what I want to suggest here is, to use this as your classroom material. You don't need many complicated tools, just a laptop, a good speaker, your internet connection and the LCD projector. Then yous can show 1-2 talks with your kids, and collect their responses.
I'll give an example with what I did to my form 5 class recently. In one lesson of 2 periods, (80 minutes) I collected response of 2 talks. Yes, 2, I managed.

You can make it a verbal response, or you can ask them to reflect, or put them in the person's shoes or whatever questions that make them response based on the talk that you show them.

The first talk is about a guy named Martin Pistorius ; After contracting a brain infection at the age of twelve, Pistorius lost his ability to control his movements and to speak, and eventually he failed every test for mental awareness. He had become a ghost. But then a strange thing started to happen — his mind began to knit itself back together. In this moving talk, Pistorius tells how he freed himself from a life locked inside his own body.  http://www.ted.com/talks/martin_pistorius_how_my_mind_came_back_to_life_and_no_one_knew

for this task, I collected the reponses verbally, through questions that I already written down like
- so who is he now?
- what were his feelings when nobody saw that he is actually aware of his surroundings?
- if your are his wife...?
and etc

For this talk I gave them a handout and told them to write a reflection on the talk. The questions for my reflection was specific : Do you support the emerging of the Dark Net (yes/no). Why?

I got so many logical responses from my boys. and it was overwhelming. They really put their heart on to this.


So the next day, I came to school like usual and came across the boys and they said "Teacher, which TED talk are we watching today?". A smile came across my face. "I couldn't be showing you TED talks everyday, could I? We need to work out on our novels for now. You guys can watch them at home on your own from now on,okay?"
(I'm sorry for the boys. The exam is taking a toll on them)So, try it teachers. I bet it could be good for you too :)

Site VLE Frog yang lengkap atau hampir sempurna (berdasarkan latihan dari beberapa jurulatih)

Good Day Everyone!

Apa khabar semua? Macam mana dengan cuti ni? Dah ronda-ronda ke? Mrs tak sempat nak ronda lagi sebab nak siapkan writing yang membukit and writing needs time, you have to have the right place and ambiance. hahaha. mengada kan?

Anyway, hari ni nak share sikit tentang pembinaan site yang lengkap dan boleh dikatakan sempurna serta memenuhi kriteria yang disenaraikan oleh jurulatih FrogAsia. Kiranya nanti site cikgu-cikgu ni sedap mata memandang, interaktif, menarik dan boleh digunakan oleh cikgu-cikgu lain semasa ketiadaan cikgu tanpa perlu banyak tanya.

Okay, jurulatih Mrs ni takde la ramai mana tapi mereka pakar dan kebanyakan mereka akan ajar benda yang sama, so Mrs simpulkan memang itulah kriteria site yang terbaik! Mrs pernah diajar oleh jurulatih frogasia dan juga guru bestari sekolah Mrs sendiri. Lepas tu ada kongsi sikit-sikit dengan cikgu-cikgu lain dan yang lain tu Mrs explore sendiri. Tak lupa juga kepada cikgu-cikgu atau jurulatih yang upload video ke youtube, semua tu sangat berguna. Sebenarnya kita perlukan masa untuk belajar, tengok youtube dsbgainya. Tapi Inshaallah kalau niat baik nak belajar Allah mesti tunjuk jalan.

Ok enough of membebel, jum kita tengok kriteria site yang lengkap.

1. Tab yang pertama - Hasil pembelajaran (Learning Outcomes) dan objektif

Untuk tab pertama ni, cikgu perlu nyatakan hasil pembelajaran yang boleh di ambil dari huraian sukatan mp dan juga objektif pnp. Kalau nak guna site ni lebih dari sehari letaklah lebih objektif tu. Ruangan ni cikgu boleh guna widget TEXT atau NOTES. Ikut suka hati cikgu. Cikgu2 jangan lupa besarkan font ya..supaya jelas dan kemas

2. Tab kedua - Pengenalan (introduction)

Baik, untuk tab kedua ni cikgu namakan dia pengenalan/introduction. Dalam tab ni biasanya ada definisi, konsep, ciri-ciri, apa dia yang cikgu nak ajar, kiranya gist dan pengenalan lah bak katanya. Tapi, cikgu jangan tempek gambar atau video macam tu je. Perlulah ada sedikit sudut interaktif untuk pelajar contribute, Haaa, nak guna widget ape ye? Ok ce tengok kat bawah ni

Cikgu gunakanlah widget WALL. Dalam widget ni pelajar boleh tulis dan pelajar lain boleh baca apa yang mereka tulis. Macam wall di FB kan.. ha gitulah fungsinya. TAPI CIKGU JANGAN LUPA TULIS ARAHAN pada wall tersebut. Kalau tidak. pelajar2 ni akan sembang merapu dan buat macam wall sendiri pulak. Student saya pernah mintak nak ke toilet, dan dia tulis dalam wall ni. cerdik sangat diorang ni.

3. Tab ketiga - Resource/Bahan/Sumber

Okay kan Mrs dah ajar macam mana nak embed buku dan PDF? kat sini cikgu boleh letakkan bahan-bahan dari mana nak dapatkan nota atau info tentang topik ni. Cikgu boleh letak embed website yang menarik atau cikgu boleh letak link ke bahan2 rujukan. Tapi saya suggest paling senang cikgu letak lah buku. JANGAN LUPA LETAK ARAHAN. Macam yang saya buat kat atas ni, arahan saya highlight biru, Sebab buku ni banyak bab dan topik. So saya spesifikkan siap2 mukasurat mana dan saya suruh buat apa. So pelajar boleh browse sendiri tanpa tunggu arahan verbal dari saya. Macam mana nak buat arahan? Guna je Widget TEXT lepas tu cikgu jangan lupa BESARKAN FONT ye.

Okay cikgu-cikgu nampak tak widget yang saya guna selepa saya embed buku ni? Ni nama dia widget 'Random Name'. Widget ni menarik sebab cikgu-cikgu boleh masukkan nama kelas kat 'enter group here' dan cikgu boleh tekan kat gambar orang tu. Cikgu tanyakan soalan, tekan widget ni dan dia akan shuffle nama pelajar satu persatu dan berhenti secara random pada nama salah satu pelajar. Adil la untuk students kan? :)

4. Tab keempat - Nota/notes

Ha kat tab ni cikgu bolehlah gunakan nota cikgu-cikgu dalam bentuk power point, image pdf dan sebagainya. Cikgu boleh la mengajar dan buat pengukuhan sikit kat sini tentang topik cikgu. TAPI INGAT!!! SETIAP POWER POINT, IMAGE, PDF atau apa sahaja yang di embedkan PERLU ADA ARAHAN YANG JELAS YE CIKGU.

5. Tab Terakhir - Penilaian/Quiz/ Assessment

Okay. Tab last ni semestinya untuk bahagian penilaian untuk test kefahaman pelajar bagi topik ni. Ingat ye, topik ni adalah subtopik. Cikgu jangan letak topik atau satu bab terus dalam ni. Naya budak-budak. hehe. Berpeluh diorang nak belajar nanti. Ok penilaian cikgu boleh guna TEXT ASSESSMENT atau QUIZ. English selalunya TEXT tapi itu semua bergantung kepada cikgu-cikgu.
PERLU DIINGATKAN, untuk mendapat hasil log in maximum, site cikgu perlu ada ASSESMENT yang INTERAKTIF. Kalau cikgu sekadar paparkan dan suruh pelajar salin dan jawab, ITU BUKAN INTERAKTIF. Untuk jadikan sesuatu assessment tu interaktif pelajar perlu jawab dalam site dan cikgu akan marking/lihat jawapan pelajar yang dihantar kat notification.

Jangan lupa share dan assign kerja ni kepada pelajar ye cikgu.. Setkan datleline dia ikut kepada pendapat cikgu, Saya selalunya beri seminggu kalau writing topics.

Okay cikgu-cikgu, Saya rasa itu sahaja lah yang boleh saya kongsikan kali ni. Diharap cikgu-cikgu dapat lah menghasilkan site-site yang memenuhi kriteria yang baik. Tapi ini hanya panduan hasil dari perkongsian ilmu pelbagai pihak. Jikalau cikgu-cikgu ada pendapat lain atau cara lain cikgu-cikgu boleh la teruskan dengan yang cikgu ada tu ye. Kalau ada penambahbaikan silalah komen, nanti saya akan update dengan cikgu-cikgu.

Teacher's Day Out

Hello, Goodday and Salam everyone.

My VI colleagues are my Perfect Companion right now. We share the same values, issues, gossips, strategies for the students, vision, shopping topics, and parenting skills for now. Yesterday we got to hang out after a long rough year of 2015. We needed the break! Phew! It was a fruitful hanging out session. Looking forward for more to come!

We met up at Ikea Cheras. The same food as Ikea Damansara, it's just that we miss the Daim cake. huhu. Anyway, the cafe is like 3 times bigger here, perhaps they learned something from the very crowded cafe of Ikea Damansara. Nonetheless, the crowd yesterday was really big. Feels like weekend though. All of us wonder, 'are these people teachers?' Hahahahaha. Alhamdulillah we went there like 9.45. so the seats are empty and no long queue for the food.

I think that's all about the leisure time we had yesterday. Now back to tutorial VLE FROG writing mode. haha. Kiasu!

Atas permintaan : Tutorial embed PDF ke VLE Frog Site

Good Day Everyone!

Apa khabar semua? Ha sebelum ni Mrs dah cerita macam mana nak embed power point dan buku kan? Hari ni kita belajar cara nak embed PDF pulak dalam site kita.

Kelebihan embed PDF dalam site ni ialah kita boleh scroll dia sampai bawah dan kebanyakan nota yang diberi secara percuma oleh cikgu-cikgu lain kat Malaysia ni dalam bentuk PDF. PDF punya interface terang dan jelas. Tulisan pun besar2 kan. Mrs amat berterima kasih kepada cikgu-cikgu yang sudi share kan pdf diorang kat slideshare atau scribd. Terbukti cikgu-cikgu kita pemurah dan memang Jutawan Akhirat sejati!

Ok dah ready? Jum kita mulakan!

1. Masukkan widget 'Link to File'
Cikgu-cikgu drag widget link to file cikgu pada site. Selalunya untuk PDF ni sebab dia besar so cikgu khaskan satu 'new tab' untuk PDF ni. Tapi suka hati cikgu, nak letak sekali dengan nota lain pun boleh. Widget tu berwarna merah ye

2. Upload File PDF
Cikgu-cikgu klik 'click here to download file' yang warna biru tu dua kali. Akan appear butang 'Upload' untuk widget tu di sebelah kiri. So cikgu2 klik butang Upload tersebut

3. Choose File
Ok sekarang cikgu2 klik choose file, kemudian dialog documents cikgu akan keluar, pilih file PDF yang cikgu nak guna tu ye. Lepas siap (Proses upload - biru menjadi hijau) cikgu klik DONE.

4. Enter File Name
Ok bila dah tekan DONE scroll bawah sikit, di sebelah kiri cikgu perlu UNTICK box kecil yang ada tulis FORCE DOWNLOAD. Maknanya kita tak nak force download ye. Atas force download tu cikgu masukkan nama file cikgu

5. Pergi ke Download File
Ok cikgu-cikgu, sekarang tekan SAVE CHANGES dan tekan butang X tu. So paparan edit akan hilang. Kemudian cikgu-cikgu klik 'CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD FILE'. Akan keluar paparan PDF cikgu tu dalam Tab baru.

6. Copy Link Tab tersebut
Masuk ke  tab PDF cikgu tu. Cikgu2 copy link dalm tab baru tu, Klik kanan dan Copy ye

7. Widget embed Website
Balik semula ke site cikgu tadi. Buka edit dan drag widget EMBED WEBSITE ke bawah widget 'Download link' tadi.

8. LAST! paste link dan adjust Height
Ok yang ni langkah terkahir ye cikgu-cikgu. Double klik widget embed website yang cikgu dah drag tadi, kemudian akan keluar paparan di sebelah kiri. Cikgu PASTE kan link yang dicopy dalam new tab tadi ke 'ENTER URL'. Lepas itu, cikgu turun bawah sikit, pergi ke ADJUST HEIGHT, cikgu2 Adjust Height ke 1100. Maksimum cikgu boleh adjust 1500. Nak kecilkan pun boleh kalau page cikgu 2 Column. Tapi risau tak nampak pula.

Then cikgu tekan SAVE CHANGES dan X.

YEYYYYY. Alhamdulillah dah siap. Lepas tekan SAVE CHANGES dan butang X cikgu akan nampak PDF cikgu2 yang full dan boleh di skrolkan atas dan bawah. Macam ni....

Best tak dapat ilmu baru? Seronok kannn. Haaa,, Don't forget to reward yourself lepas dapat buat tutorial ni ye. hehehe

Itu sahaja dari Mrs Nani untuk tutorial kali ni. Next entry saya akan ajar cara nak buat site yang betul kalau mengikut piawaian instructor-inctructor FrogAsia ni. Sebab banyak site yang terlalu complicated/simple. So saya nak layoutkan apa yang perlu ada untuk setiap site cikgu-cikgu ye. Nantikan the next entry.

VLE Frog Tutorial : Embed Buku Teks/Latihan/Rujukan ke dalam site

Good Day everyone!

Macam mana sihat ke hari ni? Mrs Nani amat-amat berterima kasih kepada yang sudi jenguk blog Mrs walaupun baru je publish! First blogpost Mrs 1000++ hit. Nampak sangat cikgu-cikgu semua memang nak belajar dan memajukan diri dalam penggunaan Frog VLE. Syabas Mrs ucapkan ye. Muahciked. Give yourself a pat on the back!

Ok seperti yang dijanjikan mrs akan ajar pulak cara nak embed/benamkan buku/buku teks yang available di Frog store dalam site VLE cecikgus. 

Biar Mrs tunjuk dulu hasil akhir dia, supaya cikgu-cikgu teruja sikit nak buat macam mana hehehe :) nah, ni dia hasil embed book dalam site

Haaaa. menarik tak. Ada banyak advantages untuk letakkan buku teks kat site ni. Advantage yang paling best ialah, takda lah cecikgu sakit hati dengar alasan, 'Cikguuuuu. Saya tak bawak buku'. tettttttttttt sangat kan kan kan? Bila kids tak bawak buku, mulalah cikgu meroyan hangin satu badan. Mana taknye, nak ngajar cemana kalau takde buku? kannnnn. 

So kalau ada ni, just open chrome book dan buku dah ada dalam tu, Kan senang cikgu? Buku ni boleh zoom, boleh selak2, boleh pilih m/s dan sebijik lah dengan buku teks diorang tu. 

But there's a catch...

tak semua buku, i repeat, tak semua buku ada dalam frogstore tu ye. So kalau buku cikgu-cikgu takde, redha je ya. Tapi yang Mrs lihat, banyak yang ada..so kalau yang ada tu, guna lah ye.

Ok, ready, get set, GOOOOOOOOO!

1. Masuk ke Frog Academy
Log in acc VLE Frog cikgu. Buka quick launch dan double klik Frog Academy

2. Masuk ke Frogstore
Klik Forgstore di sebelah kiri ye ikut anak panah merah bawah ni

3. Pilih store untuk 'books'
Aplikasi books di sebelah kiri ikut anak penah merah tu

4. Pilih Buku 
Ada pilihan subjek/tingkatan/tahun. Mrs suggest korang amik kat subjek sebab kalau tingkatan dia keluar banyak sangat. Then ambil yang free ye. siapa banyak duit boleh la ambil buku paid. so kalau takde buku yang cikgu-cikgu nak tu, mrs minta maaf. Kalau ada Alhamdulillah boleh Dance sikittttt

5. Add buku
Ok klik Add warna hijau tu ye cikgu

6. Pergi ke my Library kat atas ikon buku kecil je
ikut anak panah merah tu ye cikgu

7. Klik bahagian Books
Dalam my library ni tersimpan semua bahan yang cikgu beli/download dari frog store. so Sekarang cikgu masuk ke bahagian books ye

8. Pilih buku yang cikgu nak embed, klik Read
ikut anak panah merah tu ye cikgu

9. Copy Link
Ok bila cikgu2 klik ikon read tu dia akan open new tab macam kat bawah ni. New tab ni ada website link kat atas. cikgu klik kanan dan copy link tu ye

10. Last! Paste link kat widget Embed Website
Ok masukkan widget embed website kat tab VLE yang kita nak.. double klik ikon tu dan paste link dia. Yeyyyyy dah siap. lepas tu cikgu jangan lupa 'save changes' dan tekan x. lihat lah hasilnyaaaaaaaa. Jangan lupa tukar height ke 500 ye, kalau rasa 500 kecil bolehla buat 700 ye.

Best kannnnn? Mrs pun lepas berjaya buat ni tepuk tangan senyum sorang-sorang. Go reward yourself with and ice cream (magnum please) because you deserve it! (Handbag Coach ke, LV pun voleyyyyy)

Summary of 2015

I have so many words to describe my teaching career in 2015. It is challenging, fun, and tiring. I could also say that I gained a lot of experiences but I shredded none because I remember them all. Most of all I shall say, what doesn't kill me, makes me stronger.

The 2015 also showed a lot of the darker sides of teachers especially when things go viral. Many of us were conquered by anger, posted back nasty comments and whatnot. However, I am a patient self-taught kind of person. I don't want to say I am professional or I could not care less. I'll just say, Mrs. Nani is up for it. No matter what. I don't close one eye either, because I do care about my colleagues and the teaching profession. Nevertheless, life goes on. Teaching is still my best superpower so far (other than mother). I will continue..
Until my soul could no longer hold my body. (gitewwww)

So here is my conclusion of 2015. I picture them with the photographs.
it was bittersweet and lovely, like the kids. I am so going to miss you guys :)

Here's to 2015. Farewell! You've been really nice. 2016, bring it!
